Brow Trends
Brow Trends Over the last hundred years brow trends have changed so much! It is such an important feature of the face. So let’s take a journey to from past to present to see the evolution of eyebrows over the years. Above is the popular 1920’s brow design. Starting at the corner of the eye going all the way down to the temple. They were very thin and fairly straight across. This look gives a very pensive look to the face.
As they 1930’s arrived brows started to take on a little more of an arch yet still very thin and dark. This added a surprised or clueless expression.
Thank goodness for the 40’s! Ladies started to let their eyebrows grow in a little thicker with that slight arch of the 30’s. This was a big change in the appearance of woman giving them a bit more of a youthful look. A very big change from the serious appearance of the thin brows from years past!
Then came the glamorous 50’s! Woman were taking on a very feminine look with a thick corner to middle and a very defined arch. Such a change and step forward for fashion trends.
The 60’s brow trends were not much different from the full glamorous brows of the 50’s. Woman were found more attractive thinner with thicker eyebrows. The curvy body type of the 1950’s was changing but brows were able to stay a natural full appearance! When the hippies of the 70’s started to become more prevalent eyebrow started taking on a shape with a thick ball starting at the corner of the eye and moving into a thin more arched appearance at the ends. Jane Fonda is a good example of this trend.
Welcome to the 80’s! A time when everything was big Big BIG in brow trends! Including hair and eyebrows. Tweezing was no longer a part of maintenance. Thick natural shaggy eyebrows was all the craze! This trend continued into the 90’s. They were just a bit cleaner and better kept then past eyebrows of the 1980’s. This trend has (thankfully) continued into the 2000’s! Natural well kept and shaped eyebrows are what it is all about! It is important to not over tweeze the hair on our eyebrows. As we get older the hairs will often times stop growing in.

Want perfect brows?
perfect brows
We are no longer living in the days of pencil thin brows. Time to stop the tweezing and rethink your eyebrows. Here at Studio 229 we pride ourselves in staying up to date on hair and beauty trends to keep you looking hip! Natural, full, well shaped brows are really in right now.
As you get older and continue to wax and tweeze your eyebrows they may, over time, stop growing in. It is important to not over tweeze. If this happens there is still hope to have full, natural looking brows. Finding a good brow filler (pencil or powder) can create the illusion of perfect brows. Studio 229 also offers brow tinting which can help create that illusion.
Never had a brow wax? Want to complete your look and shape up your brows? Studio 229 Estheticians will take your unshaped brows and shape them to perfectly compliment your facial features. Brows should always start where the corner of the eye begins. The arch of your brow is found 3/4 of the way across the brow. Eyebrows are often done incorrectly when the arch is not far enough over and starts in the center of the brow. Thickness is always the clients preference but remember you can always wax more off. It is harder to grow them back in after extensive tweezing and waxing.

The Perfect Eye Brow Arch/Wax for Your Face
Eye brow Arch wax
I have seen so many people with their eyebrows plucked so thin that there is nothing left to wax. I have also seen people with so much hair on their eyebrows that it is one line known as the ever famous uni-brow. Believe it or not there is a bit of a science to waxing one’s brows. Based on the shape of the eye, the shape of the face and the natural growth of the hair on the brow itself. The esthetician here at Studio 229 hair design and spa uses this things to know exactly how to wax the brow for the perfect shape that will enhance the shape of the brow and actually make the eye look more open. Here are a few simple tips to getting your brows to flatter your face shape. Here is an image of a beautiful eyebrow:
Start in the center, your brow should start at the same point in which the corner of your eye starts. Using a pencil or brush line up the base of your nostril and corner of your inner eye; this where your brow will begin. The arch of your brow is always most flattering when it is lined up with the outside iris. The length of your brow should end at the corner of your eye.
The biggest mistake is over plucking and making the brown to thin. Filling in your eyebrows works well to enhance the arch as well as giving your eyebrows a finished look. Eyebrow gels can help tame that wild few hairs. Trimming long hairs will give your eyebrows a clean and polished finish. Here is a before and after image of someone who has filled in their eyebrows using a brush and not a pencil which tends to work best.
